Shotover Pipeline Suspension Bridge

12 May 2023

The historic Pipeline Bungy Bridge, spanning 160 meters, was originally constructed to carry a water pipe for sluicing and gold miners in the Shotover River Valley, Queenstown. Over time, it became a popular spot for bungy jumping, though this activity was recently halted due to the challenging conditions of accessing the site via the treacherous Skippers Road.

Remarkably well-preserved, the bridge owes its durability to both the harsh alpine climate and the extra redundancy built into its design, although its long-term future remains uncertain.

Our team conducted a thorough condition assessment and load capacity evaluation, offering engineering support for a film crew utilizing the bridge for a stunt on the show Special Forces: World's Toughest Test. Our services included a drone inspection, software analysis, rigging anchor design, and on-site supervision, ensuring both safety and performance.
