Project location
Upper North Island

Timeframe

Pine forest harvesting sometimes requires stream crossing structures that are suitable for the passage of heavy logging equipment. Often the cost of a traditional bridge located clear of flood water level cannot be justified for the harvesting of small forest blocks. Using design and experience originally pioneered by the NZ Forest Service, Frame Group has developed techniques for the design of cost-effective stream and river crossings that serve forestry needs, whilst also meeting the environmental requirements of National Environmental Standards for Forestry and Freshwater. A large number of “low level crossings” have been installed in Hancock Forests and several other production pine forests. Frame Group provides advice, inspection, and design to forest managers on a range of stream crossing types including pipe culverts, box culverts, battery crossings and bridges.

Projects:

  • Mangakahia River Low level Crossing with removable

  • Pipiwai Forest – Several Battery Culvert Crossings

  • Northland Forests – Several Box Culverts

Project types:

  • TM61 flood flow analysis

  • Culvert size advice

  • Detailed Design of Crossings
